Oh Baby, Baby

[MEGAN GRACE ROSE]

Mariah laughed "looks like we are both going through firsts today", she smirked. She was refering to she has never given birth before. Then another contraction came on and she squeezed his hand again.

Then the doctor came in looking through her chart "Hello Mariah, I am Doctor Jones and I will be helping you deliver today" she smiled sinserly, "I'm sure you two are excited to have a little bundle of joy" she said lifting up the sheet that was over Mariahs legs "I'm just going to look and see how manny centimeters you are dialated" she said before she started to look. "Mariah it looks like its just about time, I will go get a nurse to help and I will be right back", Dr Jones left the room for a second.

Over the time that she was talking the contraction was done, "I think I'm ready, well I guess I have to be" she smiled weakly

"I'm sure you'll do fine" paul said with a reassuring smile. "I'll be here to help" he confirmed

"Thank you" she smiled

Then the nurse and the doctor came back. They told Mariah to push and Mariah screamed and squeezed Paul's hand. After about ten minutes of this the baby boy came about healthy.
THe doctor looked at Paul "Would you like to cut the cord?". she asked

Mariah tried to catch her breath and she looked over at Paul

Throughout the process Paul was speechless, he wanted to keep pinching himself to assure this was really happening but everytime he had the thought the doctor wanted him to control Mariah or pass him something, or help one of the nurses. When it was all over he was sweating bullets and then heard the doctor ask him about the cord.

Paul didn't really know what to say, if he said yes then Mariah might feel kind of awkward because the baby was not his and they weren't involved at all, but if he said no then would Mariah get offended because it might seem like he's acting like a punk. "Uh" he said looking over at Mariah seeing that she was looking back at him "only if the brave mother wants me to" he said with a small smile

"Sure", Mariah said weakly. Sure she didn't know this guy very well but in some way she felt she had known him for a long time. he seemed like a great guy and she hoped this didn't freak him out.

The nurse gave him the supplys and the doctor said "This little boy is just so sweet" she smiled at Mariah and Paul. The baby was crying at first but now was quite and comforted.

Paul nodded all of a sudden a little nervous because he was about to cut the cord. The nurse passed him the materials and Paul looked at the just born a little blue and red baby. It was a little akward at the time but Paul just witnessed a pretty huge miracle so he grabbed the materials and listened to the instructions and in seconds all you heard was a snip and the doctor moved the baby to clean it up.

Paul looked over at Mariah "are you okay? do you need anything?" he said softly

"I just want to thank you for being here" she smiled

The nurse cleaned the baby off and handed him to Mariah "Theres your beautiful baby boy" she smiled and the doctor and nurse left the room.

Mariah looked at her baby and couldn't belive that this human life just came out of her. "He's beautiful" she smiled looking up at Paul.

"No problem" Paul said with a small smile. While the nurse passed the newborn boy to Mariah, Paul still really couldn't believe that he had witnessed Mariah give birth. He then heard Mariah's comment and grinned "yes, he is" he nodded looking at the baby and then at Mariah

Mariah looked back down at her little boy "Now you just need a name little boy", she smiled. She was just incredibly happy and could hardly believe that this little life came out of her. Then she looked up at Paul "Would you like to hold him?" she asked

Paul smiled as Mariah was talking to the baby. It seemed as if she was a natural at being a mother. When he saw her reaching out the baby to him he was a little nervous, he never held a baby before. "Oh uh surreee....." he said holding his hands out

"Don't be nervouse" she smiled noticing the hesitation, "You really can't break him easily", she said reasuringly. She passed the baby to him "Just support the head", she smiled watching him hold the baby

Paul laughed a little as Mariah was trying to reassure him it was ok. He gently held the baby trying to position it to a comfortable spot and finally was able to have it cradled in his arms. The baby was closing and opening its eyes and yawned a little as well. Paul smiled because he never really experienced something so, emotional. "Hey little guy" he whispered softly

Mariah smiled and watched as Paul was cradeling the baby in his arms. "See you're a natural", she said. For some reason she almost felt like crying, she didn't know why she was getting so emotional. Her hormones were sure imbalanced now that she had her baby.

Paul laughed a little "thats funny because I never really held a baby" he said looking over at her. Paul's life was that of 30 year old's because he worked right beside his father who wanted him to take over the business soon. The baby started fussing "whoa see I think I messed it up" he said "here I think it wants its mother" he said gently moving over to her and reaching out so Mariah can hold the baby

Mariah laughed a little "You're fine, he's a baby he will fuss you didn't do anything wrong", she smiled taking the baby back. "So I haven't really ever seen you around...have you lived here all your life?" shea sked
